WHY BAKKE ATHLETICS?

WE UNDERSTAND YOUR LIFE AND DESIRE TO BE GREAT!

The way we approach bodybuilding is different because of our experience, so let me tell you a little of ours. We've never had the luxury of being one-dimensional, and it has made us better for YOU!

I began my serious athletic life as a young kid and pursued D1 basketball and Track at the University of Wisconsin while earning a neurobiology degree. My foundation in training and nutrition was built upon the invaluable lessons I learned as a two-sport student-athlete with a hard science education at Wisconsin. I had access to incredible minds working to make us our absolute best as athletes and used every opportunity to learn everything I could through formal education and personal experience.

I graduated with a Neurobiology degree and then continued my education at Copenhagen Business School. Upon my return to the United States I worked for a small cutting-edge tech company called Epic Systems Corporation (now one of the largest medical software companies in the world).  Epic was a wonderful place to grow as a young professional. Many of the lessons and skills I learned there in my early 20s are the foundations upon which we operate our businesses today.

My time at Epic peaked my interest in how our legal system allows inventors and creators to monetize their ideas. I left Epic to pursue law school and decided to put my 10 years of consistent nutrition and training to the test as a drug-free bodybuilder.  I competed one year later (2L year), won my first show (pro card), and then went on to win my first pro show.  I competed regularly over the 5 years that followed, taking home 2 top 10 finishes at WNBF World Championships, and multiple national titles. I was hooked, and found that my life as a law student was better with the balance that my training gave me.  As my success in this new craft grew, so did the interest in the techniques I used to be my best on stage while managing a complicated life and my coaching business was born.

I loved the sport, and I loved sharing my science-based approach and athletic experience to help people achieve competition-winning physiques. My coaching business organically grew over the next several years while I was finished law school and began my early years of law practice at a "big-law" firm. Three years after my coaching business began I needed to give it my full attention, so I left my "big-law" life to focus on my athletes.

Not long after I left full-time law practice my life changed forever. I met Stephanie (again after crossing paths at Epic), eventually got married, and then welcomed our twins, Kaia and Ryker, to the family (five weeks prematurely, and two weeks after I started my cut for the fall season of 2018).  Needless to say raising twins sooner than we anticipated made my 2018 contest prep a bit more difficult than anything I had in the past, but it made me better for our family, clients, and employees.

The challenges of 2018 helped me fully understand and appreciate the value of being completely invested in multiple important pursuit simultaneously, the value of a wonderful community of support, the value of efficiency in training and the value of being 100% present where your feet are at any given moment.  I couldn't be one-dimensional, and I didn't want to be.

In 2019 my wife, an RN who spent 13 years in clinical informatics at Epic Systems Corp., decided to give competition a shot. at the age of 40, and about 8 months after recovering from delivering our twins, she started a very strategic and incredible march to the stage.  Stephanie won her first show and a pro card 13 months after giving birth to our twins.  She has competed for several years, and most recently won a WNBF amateur world championship

As you can see, our lives have been anything but "traditional" in this industry. We have lived lives that more closely resemble many of the people who can benefit most from the bodybuilding pursuit when it is done efficiently and with a focus on being elite, AND staying healthy through the process.

We can't wait to meet you!
